EDUCATION COMMITTEE

The task of the Education Committee is to ensure that all LTH students receive the best possible education and are treated in a dignified manner by LTH and its staff. Many of the positions are student representatives, which means that you are part of a decision-making body at LTH where you represent the students and have the opportunity to influence our Education!

Below is a description of the items and what they mean. There is always room for more officers in the Education Committee. So just in case you're a little interested, drop an email to hu@tlth.se!

Five points why you should get involved with your Education:

Positions in the Education Committee

  • Head of Educational Advocacy (HU) is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the Education Committee. You will also be responsible for research and research education issues and everything related to LTH's move to the Science Village. The position is full-time.

  • Head of Internal Educational Affairs (UI) is ultimately responsible for the coordination and management of the Unions student representatives. Head of Internal Educational Affairs is responsible, together with the Education Committee, for the Unions political advocacy. The position is full-time.

  • Head of External Educational Affairs (UE) is ultimately responsible for the coordination and management of the Unions national advocacy work. Head of External Educational Affairs is responsible, together with the Education Committee, for the Unions political advocacy work. The post is full-time.

  • Head of Social Affairs (SA) coordinates and leads the Unions advocacy work on student social issues and is responsible for developing the Unions activities from a student social perspective. Head of Social Affairs is also an equal opportunities officer as well as a coordinated student protection officer. The position is full-time.

  • The Education Committee Management Group, LeG, is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of the Education Committee. The LeG is responsible for organising the Education Committee's Training for Education Officers (UUU), Speak Up Days; advising student representatives that the Representative Council does not decide on; working on updates to Teknologkårens opinion programme; and running long-term projects, known as focus issues in the Strategic Plan. The group also includes the educational part-timers (HU, UI, UE and SA).

 

Delegation to the United Student Unions of Sweden the Representative Council - SFSFUM

  • The Head of Delegation of the Council of the Swedish Federation of Student Unions, together with the Deputy Head of Delegation, leads the group representing Teknologkåren during SFSFUM. the Representative Council takes place in the spring and at one of the member unions. The UE is the delegation leader.

  • The Deputy Head of Delegation of the Swedish Federation of Student Unions leads the group representing Teknologkåren during SFSFUM together with the Head of Delegation. The post is elected by the Representative Council during the end of the autumn. Contact UE if you are interested!

  • The delegates represent Teknologkåren during the full council meeting of the Swedish Federation of Student Unions. The number of delegates varies from year to year depending on the number of members in the SFS. The post is elected by the Representative Council during the end of the autumn. Student representatives in central body on LTH

  • Leads LTH's activities and is responsible for the faculty's activities before Lund University. Decides on overall goals and strategies, finances and establishes procedures for how LTH will develop Education and research. The body has about 8 meetings a year. Interested? Contact President!

  • The Research Training Board (FUN) discusses and decides on issues concerning Education at doctoral level - including quality responsibility. The Doctoral guild has priority to nominate student representatives to this body. The body has about 6 meetings per year. Interested? Contact HU!

  • The Research Board has overall and strategic responsibility for promoting and developing research at LTH. The board meets approximately 6 times a year. Interested? Contact HU!

  • The LGGU has overall responsibility for Education at undergraduate and postgraduate level and makes decisions on issues such as strategic plans, quality enhancement measures, programme structure and financial allocation to programmes. Examples of decisions are: course offerings on LTH, programme offerings on LTH and actions from programme evaluations. The body is chaired by the Vice-Chancellor for Undergraduate Education, and includes area managers, student representatives and a number of officials. The body meets about 20 times a year.     If you are interested in this assignment, you are committed to quality Education, want to promote LTH:s students' views and take responsibility for the strategic development of LTH:s undergraduate education. It is an advantage if you have been involved in student influence before (e.g. course representative or study council) but it is not a requirement! Your involvement is most important. We usually have pre-meetings before each meeting where we talk through what we are going to say. Student representatives are normally appointed for each new academic year.   • The JäLM management team is tasked with providing advice and support on equality, equity and diversity issues for students and staff at LTH. The body meets approximately 8 times a year. Interested? Contact SA!

  • The Careers Committee is responsible for reviewing applications for promotion from teachers, as well as applications for ETP (Excellent Teaching Practitioner) and Associate Professor applications. Interested? Contact UI!

    If you are interested in this assignment, you are committed to a legally sound Education and will work on the preparation and selection of recommendations and internal recruitment within LTH. Having recruitment and selection committee experience is a really cool skill to have and will be incredibly attractive to any company regardless of industry later in your career. Duties include: working from requirement profiles, application and CV screening, interviewing and hiring decisions. Remuneration is based on the number of meetings you have attended and consists of a basic fee of 7000 SEK + 1100 SEK per meeting day (up to 2022).

  • The Recruitment Board is responsible for the preparation of matters relating to the employment of teaching staff at LTH. Interested? The body holds about 30 meetings a year. Interested? Contact UI!

    If you are interested in this assignment, you are committed to a legally sound Education and will work on the preparation and selection of new appointments at LTH. Having recruitment and selection committee experience is a really cool skill to have and will be incredibly attractive to any company regardless of industry later in your career. Duties include: working from requirement profiles, application and CV screening, interviewing and hiring decisions. Remuneration is based on the number of meetings you have attended and consists of a basic fee of 7000 SEK + 1100 SEK per meeting day (up to 2022).

  • The Campus Committee is responsible for LTH-common matters related to buildings and facilities and reports to the President of LTH. The committee includes the Vice-President for Sustainable Campus Development and Widening Recruitment, representatives from LTH's office, departmental boards, undergraduate and house boards, and student representatives.   • Student representatives in the programme management represent their students on its programmes. A programme management board decides on the range of courses to be offered in the programme and decides on the programme, course, curriculum and timetables. The programme management also deals to some extent with recruitment, quality development and induction work (not to be confused with introduction). This position is nominated by the study councils of the guilds and elected by Teknologkåren. If you are interested in applying for this position, please contact the study council at your Guild!

  • A department is a department at LTH that teaches courses and conducts research. All teachers are employed by a department and programme managers purchase courses from the various departments. Each department is headed by a departmental board, which makes decisions about recruitment, curricula, the publication of research findings, strategies and finances for Education and research, among other things. In addition, the department is informed of what is currently going on in the department. Interested? Contact the student council at your Guild or alternatively UI!

 

Student representatives with other assignments

  • Reference Group for the Chemistry Library (1 +1 ) and Reference Group for the Physics and Astronomy Library (1 + 1)

    The reference groups for libraries are advisory body on issues concerning information resources such as books and electronic media. They also discuss how to develop their activities. The body meets about 6 times a year. Interested? Contact the UI!

  • the Nomination Committee is responsible for preparing nominations and proposing candidates for the Rector of LTH, the Vice-Rector of LTH and members of the Board of LTH. As a student representative, you are only involved in the preparation of LTH's rector and LTH's pro-rector, which takes place before each new term of office every three years. The next selection process for this is the academic year 22/23. One of the student representatives should represent graduate students. More about the composition of the election committee.

    What is expected of me?

    As a student representative on the Nominations Committee, you are expected to have a good understanding of how LTH's management works, what the needs of the management are and what interests Teknologkåren has in the recruitment of a pair of Vice-Chancellors. The Nominating Committee process may include Nominating Committee meetings, interviews, exploratory meetings, reading of application documents (resumes, credentials), and selection days. Re-election of a principal usually involves less work than new recruitment.

  • The architectural examination is a selection test for the architecture programme and is governed by this steering committee. the Student Council for the architecture programme (SRA) has exclusive nomination rights.

  • The Industrial Design School Strategic Steering Group long-term development of education and school funding.

  • The International Institution of Industrial Environment and Economics (IIIEE) is organisationally directly under LU, but LTH has some responsibility for quality assurance of the training. In The Union Board uster Teknologkåren 2+2 student representatives and 1+1 PhD student representatives.

  • The Centre for Engineering Education (CEE) runs LTH-common educational activities in: Higher Education Pedagogical Development, Skills Development, Merit and Management Support (Breakthrough); provides support and courses for PhD students and research supervisors as well as teachers and researchers at early stages of their careers; runs Supplemental Instruction (SI) for LTH:s students and qualifying Education within the Engineering Foundation Year.

  • Health, environment and safety. SA is the student representative.

  • SA is the student representative on this committee.

  • A permanent task force under the LG GU with the responsibility for student welfare issues related to undergraduate education. SA is a full member.

  • LTH:s heavier body can set up temporary working groups. The LeG is responsible for coordinating, calling and appointing student representatives to these groups. For example, LG GU usually has several parallel working groups active. For ongoing and upcoming workgroups, please contact the UI.
